Use chemicals and mechanical or hand-operated equipment. Clean classrooms, restrooms, laboratories, offices, rooms and assigned areas. Perform dusting, mopping floors, washing stairs, walls, windows, appliances, household items, upholstery, window treatments and doors; vacuum, strip, wax and buff floors. Use ladders to wash light fixtures and replace light bulbs. Maintain exterior and interior entranceways. Move and arrange furniture for cleaning and meeting set-up. Performs journeyman level electrical duties. Repairs, maintains, and installs electrical systems and equipment including fixtures, motors, load centers, relays, controls, circuitry, and related equipment. Locates and determines electrical malfunctions using test instruments such as ammeter, volt meter and ohmmeter. Plans new or modifies installations consistent with specifications and national electrical code. Plan and lay out work, develop time and material lists. Read and interpret plans, codes, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications. Tests, adjusts, calibrates and maintains a wide variety of control equipment, including but not limited to building heating, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment controls for refrigeration; and for a wide variety of other equipment and systems. Performs maintenance, and preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment including bathroom exhaust fans, clothes dryers, sump pumps and generators. Successful completion of two-year training or apprenticeship program or 4 years of full-time experience required. Must have working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical trade. $42631 to $52039 per year.

Sort and distribute documents, keep appropriate records, and redirect documents. Establish new files by numbering forms, coding, preparing file folders, and compiling relevant material. Update and correct records and files. Create routine reports, (e.g., personal and unit production, or assist in preparation of reports by gathering data, tabulating results, preparing simple charts). Operate office machinery, including photocopiers, calculators, computer printers, and scanners. Enter and/or retrieve information from computer databases. Communicate both verbally and in writing. Create materials, including, but not limited to letters/memorandums, emails, and spreadsheets using various computer software programs. Plant utilities assistant
Assist in the operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution. Assists in the operation of steam and hot water boilers including lighting off, firing, cleaning and shutting down systems. Assist in the operation of central and auxiliary computers which monitor, test, control and operate boilers, auxiliary equipment and HVAC systems. Service and maintain residential heating and air conditioning equipment. Conduct boiler, HVAC and water systems testing, analyzing results and adding chemicals to maintain proper residuals in boiler and piping systems. Assists in the operation of large central absorption, centrifugal, screw driven and hermetic chiller systems and other refrigeration equipment. Duties include starting, regulating and troubleshooting to maintain proper temperature. Perform operations and maintenance within an asbestos environment and/or projects being carried out by other employees or private contractors. Handle various types of hazardous materials, such as refrigerants, freon, gas, fuel oil, solvents, antifreeze, biocides, nitrates, ethanol, acids, caustic soda, regulated waste and refuse. Must be permanent in this title, or reachable on the Current Civil Service List, or eligible for a 70.1 transfer. One year of satisfactory hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers and/or auxiliary equipment or HVAC equipment in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities, or high school diploma or GED and successful completion of four trades courses in electrical, refrigeration, boiler operation and maintenance, plumbing, and HVAC are required. Valid NYS Driver’s License is a must. Basic computer skills preferred. $36772 to $45200 per year.
